Write a reference letter for a nurse or healthcare worker

For a nurse manager, charge nurse, preceptor, instructor or coworker asked to recommend someone, or for the job seeker drafting it for them to edit. Say who they are, how you know them and what they do well, and it writes a letter of recommendation in those facts, for a job, a nursing school or NP program, a residency or a travel agency.

Free, no sign-up. What you type is used for your answer and not stored.

Fill in the form and your answer appears here, ready to copy and edit.

How it works

  1. Pick the person's role, how the writer knows them and what the letter is for.
  2. Write what they do well with real examples, in plain words.
  3. Fill any [bracket], read it as the writer, and send it on letterhead or through the employer's or school's own form.

Common questions

What should a nursing reference letter say?

Who the writer is and how long they have worked with the person, two or three specific examples of their clinical skill, judgment and teamwork, how they treat patients and families, and a clear recommendation. The tool uses only the examples you give and leaves a [bracket] where a detail would help.

Can I draft my own reference letter for my manager?

Many managers ask for that. Write it from what they have seen of your work, then send it to them to change, approve and sign. Never send a letter in someone's name that they have not approved.

Is it free?

Yes, with no sign-up. What you write is used to write the letter and is not stored. Applying for a new role? See open healthcare jobs with the pay employers post.
