Location: San Diego, CA 92128
Pay: $18–$20 per hour.
Job Type: Part-Time / Weekend Schedule: Saturday & Sunday, 2:00 PM–10:00 PM
DESCRIPTION
Do you have experience helping dementia clients through confusion, restlessness, and challenging behaviors? Cornerstone Caregiving is seeking a patient, confident, and experienced Weekend Afternoon Caregiver to provide one-on-one support for a female senior residing in a memory care facility. Our client may experience confusion and attempts to leave the facility. We need a caregiver who understands how to respond with gentle redirection, calming reassurance, and positive engagement. This position includes afternoon companionship, evening activities, and helping the client transition comfortably into her bedtime routine.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one afternoon and evening companionship
- Monitor for restlessness, wandering, and exit-seeking behaviors
- Use calming communication, distraction, and gentle redirection
- Encourage participation in afternoon and evening activities
- Assist with dinner routines and hydration
- Engage the client in relaxing activities and meaningful conversation
- Provide emotional reassurance during periods of anxiety
- Assist with toileting, grooming, and evening personal care
- Help the client prepare for bedtime
- Coordinate with facility staff and report changes in behavior
Ideal Caregiver
We're looking for someone who is calm under pressure, emotionally patient, confident, and experienced with dementia-related behaviors. The ideal caregiver can recognize early signs of restlessness and respond proactively before a situation escalates. You should know how to redirect a client respectfully while preserving her dignity and sense of independence.
Qualifications
- At least 1 year of caregiving experience preferred
- Dementia or memory care experience highly preferred
- Experience with exit-seeking, wandering, and behavioral redirection
- Comfortable assisting with evening routines and personal care
- Reliable Saturday and Sunday availability
- Strong communication and observation skills
- Ability to pass a background check
- California HCA registration or willingness to obtain
- Required TB clearance
