Under the general direction of the Nurse Manager, the Lactation consultant provides counsel to patients in the inpatient and the outpatient setting. The Lactation consultant makes assessments in person or on the phone, providing guidance for breastfeeding issues, including but not limited to difficult latch, low milk supply, insufficient weight gain, and prematurity. The Lactation Consultant makes appropriate referrals to members of the interdisciplinary team. The Lactation Consultant assists in the development and teaching of lactation education to nursing and medical staff. The Lactation Consultant performs related duties as assigned.
Our state of the art Birth Center was built in 2020. Featuring 160,000 square feet – 13 Labor and Delivery rooms, 2 operating rooms, 24 Postpartum rooms, and 7 NICU rooms. Our Level 2 NICU features 7 private rooms including 1 twin room for a total of 8 beds, each with an adjoining family space and bathroom to keep families connected.
Regions Hospital is one of the few hospitals in the country to feature the Enhanced Couplet Care model. 5 of our Postpartum rooms are outfitted with a full NICU headwall, allowing a subset of our NICU babies to stay in the Postpartum room with their families and avoid separation.
