General Statement of Duties
The Private APP will be personally trained by the physician to evaluate patients with acute and chronic spine pathology, including but not limited to, herniated discs causing nerve root compression, myofascial injuries, and chronic arthritic conditions. The physician will train the PA/NP to prescribe appropriate non-narcotic medication management while we are actively treating the issue as well as how to order and read the appropriate diagnostic tests including EMGs, x-rays, CT’s, and MRI’s. The PA/NP would also be introduced to the physician’s network of physical therapists to maximize physical therapy outcomes for our patients. The physician will need the PA/NP to utilize his/her clinical judgment to know when to refer patients for surgical consults with OrthoIndy surgeons. Ultimately, once fully trained, the PA/NP will mainly practice independently while running his/her own clinic and of course, discussing patients with the physician as needed.
All clinical care provided by the Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) will be within the scope of the duties assigned by the supervising OrthoIndy Physician. The supervising Physician must be either physically present or immediately available for consultation when services are proved by the Advanced Practice Provider, including care provided using protocols, guidelines, and/or standing order.
