About Christ Community Health Services

As a faith-based Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), we serve approximately 60,000 patients each year across our Memphis health centers, offering primary care, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy, and specialty services.
About the Role
Christ Community Health Services is seeking a dependable, patient-focused Pharmacy Technician to support safe, accurate, and efficient pharmacy services. Working under the supervision and direction of a pharmacist, this role assists with prescription processing, medication preparation, patient records, inventory, prescription pickup, and payment activities.
This is a non-certified technician role. The Pharmacy Technician performs assigned technical functions only as permitted by law, CCHS policy, and the supervising pharmacist. A pharmacist provides required oversight, completes final prescription verification, and handles all medication counseling and clinical decisions.
Why Join CCHS?
- Help underserved patients obtain the medications and support they need for better health.
- Learn and strengthen pharmacy skills while working under the supervision of licensed pharmacists.
- Work alongside pharmacists and other healthcare professionals in an integrated care environment.
- Build meaningful relationships with patients while supporting accurate, timely service.
- Contribute to a culture grounded in compassion, service, excellence, and Christian faith.
Our Core Values and What They Look Like in This Role
CCHS team members are expected to demonstrate our core values every day. For a Pharmacy Technician, they mean:
- Intentional Love - Greeting patients with compassion, patience, dignity, and respect while responding thoughtfully to their needs.
- Devoted Service - Providing dependable support to patients, pharmacists, and coworkers throughout each prescription encounter.
- Humble Excellence - Completing assigned pharmacy tasks carefully, asking questions when guidance is needed, and following legal and professional standards while remaining teachable and Christ-centered.
What You'll Do
- Greet patients courteously, determine their pharmacy-service needs, and provide prompt assistance within the technician's authorized role.
- Receive and enter prescription information for pharmacist review in accordance with insurance requirements and CCHS guidelines.
- Check prescription information for completeness and promptly refer questions, discrepancies, or concerns to the supervising pharmacist.
- Prepare prescriptions under a pharmacist's direct supervision by counting, pouring, weighing, or measuring medications; selecting the appropriate container; and affixing the correct label.
- Present every prepared prescription to a pharmacist for final verification before it is released to the patient.
- Accept and communicate prescription information only as permitted by Tennessee law, CCHS policy, and the supervising pharmacist.
- Use point-of-sale equipment to record prescription sales and collect appropriate payments according to pharmacy guidelines.
- Ask patients whether they would like medication counseling and refer all counseling requests, clinical questions, medication recommendations, and judgment-based decisions to the pharmacist.
- Establish and maintain complete, accurate patient profiles and prescription records using pharmacy software, subject to pharmacist review when required.
- Stock medications, assist with inventory counts, and support medication ordering only as directed and supervised by a pharmacist.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and secure work area that supports patient safety and efficient pharmacy operations.
- Follow applicable privacy, safety, regulatory, and organizational requirements.
- Complete assigned training and demonstrate competency for delegated duties before performing them independently within the permitted scope.
- Perform other duties as assigned under pharmacist supervision.
What You'll Bring
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current registration with the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy, or the ability to obtain required registration before performing technician duties.
- Pharmacy Technician training, pharmacy experience, or experience in a healthcare or customer-service setting is preferred.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician certification is not required for this position.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accuracy while completing multiple processing steps.
- Professional communication and customer-service skills.
- Ability to follow instructions, accept pharmacist oversight, and ask for guidance when a task or request is outside the technician's training or authority.
- Ability to protect confidential patient information and work effectively as part of a pharmacy team.
What Success Looks Like
- Prescription information is entered accurately and routed to the pharmacist for appropriate review.
- Medications are prepared carefully under supervision and are never released before pharmacist verification.
- Patient profiles, payment records, and inventory information remain complete and current.
- Patients receive courteous service and are referred promptly to a pharmacist for counseling, clinical questions, or concerns requiring professional judgment.
- Assigned duties are completed only after appropriate training and within the technician's permitted scope.
- Pharmacy inventory is organized and replenished as directed by a pharmacist.
- Legal, regulatory, privacy, safety, and CCHS requirements are followed consistently.
- The Christian mission and values of CCHS are reflected in daily interactions and work practices.
Work Environment
This position operates in a pharmacy and clinic environment and involves regular contact with patients who may have infectious or contagious illnesses.
The role requires sitting for approximately 25% of the workday while entering prescriptions, standing for approximately 50% while assisting with prescription preparation, and walking for approximately 25% while assisting patients. Lifting, pushing, or pulling occurs approximately 20% of the time, with items weighing up to 20 pounds. Typical objects include drug wholesaler totes, boxes of labels, copy paper, and prescriptions.
