About the job

Perioperative Registered Nurse

  • Location: Ashburn, Virginia - Quad A–accredited office-based surgery center
  • Schedule: Approximately 24–30 hours per week
  • Pay: $35–$40 per hour, based on experience

About the Role

NOVA Plastic Surgery is looking for a compassionate, detail-oriented Registered Nurse to join our surgical team. You'll provide one-on-one patient care through every phase of surgery, from pre-op to the operating room to recovery, in a Quad A–accredited office-based surgery center.

Operating room experience is a plus but not required. If you're a skilled RN who wants to grow into perioperative nursing, we'll train you. You'll trade the pace of a hospital floor for focused, one-patient-at-a-time care with a close-knit team.

Schedule

  • Approximately 24–30 hours per week, daytime hours.
  • Must be available every Tuesday and Wednesday, 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Remaining hours are scheduled based on the surgical calendar.

What You'll Do

Pre-Operative

  • Verify patient identity and confirm the correct site and procedure on the consent.
  • Guide patients through signing consents and waivers.
  • Assess and document vital signs, allergies, height and weight on the anesthesia record.
  • Start peripheral IVs and give pre-op medications as ordered.
  • Chaperone the surgeon during pre-surgical markings.

Intraoperative (Circulating)

  • Help the CRNA with induction and intubation, and be present for extubation.
  • Position patients safely and apply grounding pads, SCDs and warming blankets.
  • Maintain infection control and perform surgical counts before, during and after each procedure.
  • Monitor equipment and coordinate the team's response in an emergency.

Recovery (PACU)

  • Monitor vital signs, level of consciousness and surgical sites, and report concerns to the surgeon.
  • Give medications as ordered and monitor patients until they meet discharge criteria.

Surgery Center Operations

  • Complete the daily checklist and make sure oxygen and emergency supplies are stocked in the OR, pre-op and PACU.
  • Monitor and order supplies, receive inventory and help with quarterly inventory counts.
  • Keep surgeon preference cards up to date in NexTech and on the shared drive.
  • Perform sterile processing duties.
  • Help maintain Quad A accreditation standards and follow surgery center policies.

Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse license in Virginia, or a multistate compact license that allows you to practice in Virginia.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • Availability every Tuesday and Wednesday, 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Willingness to complete required continuing education, including online training modules.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Operating room, PACU or pre-op experience.
  • Experience in an ambulatory or office-based surgery center.
  • IV insertion experience.
  • Familiarity with NexTech or a similar electronic medical record.

Why Join Us

  • One-on-one patient care in a calm, office-based setting.
  • Training in perioperative nursing for RNs new to the OR.
  • A small, collaborative team in a Quad A–accredited surgery center.
