Requirements
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
License: Current NYS license to practice as a Registered Nurse
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS Basic Coronary Care
Experience: Must have 1 year of recent experience working in GI and/or OR. Must be able to perform duties at a fast pace after 2 days of orientation. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion and ability to deal with the people in a professional and courteous manner. Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities and enhance the spirit of teamwork through effective role modeling. Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and oral) and organizational skills. Computer literacy.
Responsibility Summary
The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical and communication skills in delivering high quality compassionate care to patients and families. The Registered Professional Nurse assesses patient need, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates the care delivery throughout the patients episode. The Registered Nurse in Intensive Care develops specialized skill to care for critically ill unstable patients. The RN develops a strong working knowledge of life support machines, cardiac monitoring systems and other life preserving medical equipment and nursing interventions essential for a critical care nurse. The RN is accountable for patient family education to assist the patient and family in understanding self care beyond hospitalization including lifestyle changes to support health and healing. The Registered Nurse is expected to promote comfort, and provide emotional support in a healing environment.
