About the job

Make a Difference Behind the Scenes of Patient Care

Do you enjoy solving problems, staying organized, and helping a team succeed? Are you someone who can think on your feet, communicate clearly, and stay calm when plans change?

As a Central Staffing Specialist , you'll play an important role in keeping our healthcare system running smoothly by helping ensure the right staff are in the right place at the right time. You'll work closely with nursing leaders and healthcare teams across the organization to respond to changing staffing needs, solve coverage challenges, and support safe, effective patient care.

This is more than a scheduling job. It's a fast-paced role for someone who enjoys making decisions, balancing competing priorities, and helping others succeed. Every shift brings new challenges and opportunities to make a difference.

What You'll Do

  • Solve staffing challenges: Work with unit leaders to address call-offs, staffing shortages, and changing patient care needs.
  • Coordinate resources: Help move staff between units and departments based on staffing needs, patient census, and operational priorities.
  • Manage scheduling: Post open shifts, monitor staffing coverage, update schedules, and maintain accurate records.
  • Communicate with teams: Keep nursing leaders and other departments informed of staffing changes and coverage needs.
  • Support daily operations: Coordinate sitter assignments, incentive requests, travel staff approvals, and overflow staffing needs.
  • Balance staffing needs: Help make staffing decisions that support patient care while following organizational policies and budget guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records: Assist with payroll-related tasks, compliance tracking, audits, and reporting.
  • Protect confidential information: Follow HIPAA requirements and organizational policies when handling employee and patient information.

What Makes You a Great Fit?

We're looking for someone who is dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. You don't have to know everything on day one, but you should be willing to learn, ask questions, and take initiative.

Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Basic math skills, including ratios and percentages.
  • Computer proficiency and the ability to learn scheduling systems and electronic health records.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow HIPAA and organizational policies.

Experience in healthcare, staffing, scheduling, customer service, dispatching, or other coordination-focused roles may be helpful. Candidates with strong organizational and communication skills who are eager to learn are encouraged to apply, provided they meet the position's required qualifications.

Interested in a role where your communication, organization, and problem-solving skills make a real difference? We'd love to hear from you.
