Job Summary

Surgical Technician/Surgical Operating Room Technician position responsible for maintaining sterile technique, supporting surgical procedures, and promoting patient safety throughout the operative process. The role prepares instruments and supplies, anticipates the surgeon’s needs, assists with surgical procedures, and collaborates with the Operating Room (OR) team to ensure efficient case turnover and quality patient care.

Job Details

• Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with rotating on-call shifts on weekdays, weekends, and holidays; 10-hour shifts and 40 hours per week.
• Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA); Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA), Health & Safety Institute, or American Red Cross; and one of the following: compliance with applicable state surgical technologist certification requirements, completion of a surgical technologist program through the armed forces, or completion of a nationally accredited surgical technologist educational program with a nationally accredited surgical technologist credential.
• Preferred Qualifications: Previous Operating Room (OR) experience and previous Surgical Technologist experience.
• Additional Information: Maintains asepsis and sterile technique before and during procedures; assists with gowning, gloving, draping, instrument passing, suturing, retracting, and suctioning under the surgeon’s direction; anticipates required instruments, sutures, and equipment; maintains accurate sponge, tape, needle, dissector, and instrument counts; prepares supplies and equipment according to preference cards; identifies equipment or procedural concerns; handles specimens according to policy; recognizes potential equipment, chemical, and gas hazards; supports safe patient care; maintains an organized operative field; conserves supplies; participates in efficient turnover between cases; and provides or receives support from other Operating Room staff.
