Summary

The RN - OB Outreach Educator is responsible for assisting with the orientation and professional education of the Center for Women's Health staff and with the orientation training and on-going educational programs for hospitals in the NE TN Perinatal area when requested. The Educator will serve as a resource and support person for staff and health care professionals in the region and is responsible for developing or assisting in the development of programs for the area, and serves as a liaison for the Perinatal program. The Educator will accompany the high-risk obstetrician on rounds and provides input into patient care management.

The Educator will participate in development of care plans, protocols, and guideline nursing services in community hospitals as requested. This individual will serveas a nursing consultative resource and as a liaison between referring hospital nurses and the Perinatal Center; participates in site visits and formulates recommendations along with the Medical Co-Director regarding equipment, personnel, education, and other needs for nursing services. The Educator will maintain records regarding outreach activities. Additionally, the Educator will participate on local and state committees regarding perinatal care, as well as to participate in medical and nursing research in Perinatal Center as needed.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited Nursing program, Master's degree or certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist preferred. Minimum three years experience in the area of maternal/fetal medicine. The incumbent should have a working knowledge of the nursing process and demonstrate skill in techniques of good patient care. Must be able to complete job related competencies as deemed necessary to the performance of the RN role in the nursing department of employment.
