SuperAnnotate (SME)

SuperAnnotate runs SME Careers (sme.careers), where vetted subject-matter experts are matched to managed AI-training projects after an AI interview, a domain task and, for most roles, a recruiter interview. On 2 November 2026 its board posted ten health roles, most of them in 17 countries: Medical Doctor (Specialist) at up to $150/hr everywhere, and in the US and Germany Radiologist up to $120/hr, Nurse Practitioner and Dentist up to $90/hr, and Nurse and Pharmacist up to $65/hr, with lower ceilings elsewhere. Nearly all of those postings say no project is open for the role yet: approval puts you in its network, and paid work starts when a project has seats.

Is SuperAnnotate (SME) a legitimate company to work for?

Checked Oct 2026 against

Yes. Deel payouts to contractors are on record, and SME Careers is SuperAnnotate's own channel for hiring expert AI trainers, operated by SME Solutions, Inc. of San Francisco. Landing paid hours once approved is far less sure. A pass does not bring a project. On 29 October 2026, 129 of 264 open roles stated there was no immediate project, onboarded contractors describe months of waiting, and the rate offered can sit well under a listing's 'up to' figure. It pays Up to $35–$150/hr (posted ceilings, by role and country) (employer-stated).

Who is behind it
Brothers Vahan and Tigran Petrosyan founded SuperAnnotate in 2018 to sell AI data software and services. Investors in its $50 million Series B include NVIDIA, Socium Ventures, Dell Technologies Capital and Databricks Ventures. Its job posts call SME Solutions, Inc. a subsidiary; that firm operates SME Careers from the same 100 Bush Street office. sme.careers was first registered in August 2025, and SME does not say which labs it serves.
Getting paid
Deel pays each Friday for the approved hours of the Monday to Sunday week before. On hourly work the Insightful tracker (it can grab screenshots and record your screen) logs only active time; a pause beyond 2 minutes earns nothing. SME sets your rate; a listing states only its maximum, from $2.50 to $150 hourly on 29 October 2026.
Worker ratings
Trustpilot (SuperAnnotate) 2.9/5 (33 reviews) · Trustpilot (SME Careers) 2.9/5 (2 reviews) · Indeed (SuperAnnotate) 5.0/5 (1 review). Read October 2026.
Who can join
Its health roles were posted for the US, Germany, Brazil and 14 countries in South and Southeast Asia on 2 November 2026 (the rubric-design and psychology lead roles for the US only). Its home page says 40+ countries; its full list named 102 on 31 October 2026, in Africa only South Africa, Egypt and Mauritius.
Fake SuperAnnotate (SME) recruiters
RemoWork warns that impersonators trade on the SME Careers name, though we found no named case. Genuine pages live only on sme.careers and docs.sme.careers. Mail comes from support@sme.careers, payments@sme.careers or legal@sme.careers, and Deel is the only place for contracts and ID checks. A LinkedIn post should point to sme.careers, and no real role asks you to pay.

What people praise

  • Real pay is confirmed on Reddit: a contractor on a live project calls the hourly pay decent, and another says every payment so far has come through.
  • A RemoWork writer documents eight Deel payments from SME Solutions, Inc., $2,362.05 altogether, for work on a $15-an-hour project (RemoWork itself also posts SME roles).
  • The help pages are public and spell out the terms up front: the pay week, what tracked time counts, how many retakes you get, and that onboarding is no promise of a project.

What people complain about

  • Getting through screening and signing with Deel often leads to nothing: on Reddit people describe two months of waiting, one says 18 months, and another's pay dispute was never answered.
  • Expect a gap between listing and offer: Reddit posters saw $55 and $30 hourly roles become offers of $9 and $8, with contracts naming them just 'Data Trainer'.
  • SuperAnnotate's 33 Trustpilot reviews are mostly five-star and often about its software; the one-star ones (2024 to August 2026) report partial or missing pay or silence, with no company reply.
  • Two reviews sit on SME Careers' own Trustpilot page, both one-star: one person heard nothing after the AI interview (August 2026), another was let go ten days into bootcamp without a reason (October 2026).
Who it suits

Best for: A physician, pharmacist, nurse or other credentialed health professional with three or more years in the field who wants hourly AI project work on the side, paid weekly through Deel, and can wait for a project to open. Not for: Clinicians who need dependable hours or a quick start, who count on a listing's top rate, who live where the role or Deel is unavailable, or who would rather not be interviewed on video by an AI and tracked on screen.

Honest catches

  • Pay here is employer-stated, not measured live from a job feed, so treat it as a benchmark rather than a guaranteed rate.

Signing up with SuperAnnotate (SME)

Researched Oct 2026

Weekly Deel pay comes at the end of a long chain: an sme.careers account (email or LinkedIn), a two-part data trainer form with your CV as a PDF or typed in, an application to a role, a recorded AI video interview of roughly 15 minutes, any exam plus SME's own screening, then a Deel contract, Deel's ID check and a linked Discord account, after which you wait for a project invitation (full projects may offer a waitlist) and pass a paid bootcamp.

Eligibility

  • Living in a country Deel serves. Countries Deel cannot pay are greyed out on the application form and cannot be picked, and SME does not publish the list.
  • Living where the role is posted. The public job feed on 29 October 2026 covered 102 countries, yet 108 of the 264 roles were posted for a single country, and in Africa only South Africa, Egypt and Mauritius appeared.
  • Credentials that match the posting. Of 264 roles on 29 October 2026, 227 demanded a degree, more than 200 a minimum of three years in the field, and 120 English at level C1. Physicians applying as a Medical Doctor (Specialist) need their specialty training behind them and at least five years of practice after it (5+ in the posting).
  • For the AI interview: a desktop with an up-to-date Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari, a microphone and camera that work, a steady connection and a quiet room. SME advises against phones and tablets.
  • For Deel's identity check, a current photo ID issued by a government plus a selfie, the ID carrying exactly your account name. SME will not assign work until your Discord account is verified too.
  • On hourly projects, a computer where you are able to install Insightful, SME's desktop time tracker; a Mac also has to grant it screen-recording permission.

The sign-up steps

  1. 1

    Open an account

At sme.careers/apply, either continue with LinkedIn or register an email and a password of 8+ characters that mixes upper and lower case, a number and a special character. SME emails a 6-digit code to confirm the address, and a fresh code can be requested every 2 minutes.

  2. 2

    Complete the data trainer form

Part one (Personal information) asks where you live, what you studied, your mother tongue, your skills and what you hope to earn per hour in US dollars, which you may decline to state. Part two (Resume) takes a PDF of up to 5 MB, or your schooling and jobs typed by hand. An uploaded CV is parsed into your profile automatically, so correct anything it gets wrong.

  3. 3

    Apply to roles

Anyone, signed in or not, can look through the openings at sme.careers/jobs; signing in shows the rate for your own country, since one role can pay differently from country to country. There is no cap on how many roles you apply to, but each accepts you once. Your Applications page lists each one with the status Interview pending and a Take Interview button beside it.

  4. 4

    Do the AI interview

Expect about 15 minutes on camera with an AI interviewer, and the session is recorded. You first consent and let it test your microphone and camera, then a warm-up question leads into questions on the role itself, in English for most people. Reaching for notes, a search engine or ChatGPT gets you thrown out.

  5. 5

    Await the grade

Grading normally takes 1 to 2 business days and ends in one of three labels: Qualified for role, Retake available, or Not Passed. Software writes the first summary and score, and people at SME review it as well.

  6. 6

Clear any exam and SME's screening

Certain roles follow the interview with a qualification exam held off the SME Careers site. SME's team then looks over your profile and CV, and some roles add a brief recruiter interview by email invitation. Skipping an appointment without warning can end your application.

  7. 7

Sign with Deel and prove your identity

The onboarding invitation unlocks Profile, then Onboarding, where Request contract makes Deel email you an independent contractor agreement within minutes. Once it is signed, Deel asks for a photo of your government ID and a selfie.

  8. 8

    Connect Discord

In that same Onboarding tab, choose Verify Discord and authorise SME Careers. No work can be assigned until all three steps (contract, ID check, Discord) are done, and even then a project is not guaranteed.

  9. 9

Take a project and its bootcamp

Each project invitation states that project's hourly rate and an expiry time, and accepting it needs a verified Discord account. When every seat is already taken you can join the waitlist. Most projects open with a paid bootcamp in which your training tasks are scored; failing it removes you from that project alone.

  10. 10

    Work, then collect weekly pay

Project tasks run in the client project's own tool, which may be SuperAnnotate's annotation software; SME Careers is only where you apply and onboard. Each Friday, Deel pays out whatever the team approved from the Monday to Sunday week before.

AI video interview at SME Careers (some roles add an exam or a recruiter call)

For most roles the first gate is an AI interviewer that asks about your background and expertise. Automated tools then write a summary and an initial assessment, and SME says the final decision is made by people. Certain postings also set an exam or a short call with a recruiter, and once you join a project its paid bootcamp is a further test.

Format

About 15 minutes of recorded video with the AI, taken on a computer browser with your camera and microphone switched on. You get one attempt, plus one retake only if SME offers it; an interview with under three questions answered is not counted as an attempt. A count of the 264 open roles on 29 October 2026 found 96 listing three stages: the AI interview, a domain task and a recruiter interview.

How to prepare

  • Start on the welcome page: it tells you the role, its description, its pay where SME has set one, and which language to answer in.
  • Find a quiet room and a desktop with headphones, grant camera and microphone access, and close Zoom, Slack or any app that could block them.
  • Answer with real cases from your own practice: SME says concrete examples count for more than general statements, and that saying you do not know is better than guessing.
  • Do not rush. After you stop speaking the AI waits 5 to 6 seconds before going on, and an on-screen timer shows the planned length.
  • If a retake is offered, reread what the posting asks for, and only start it once the earlier result is in, so you do not end up with two records.

Why people get rejected

  • Turning to search engines, ChatGPT or written notes while being interviewed: SME says it can tell, and you are disqualified.
  • A second miss on the retake, which locks the role with the message 'You've used all your interview attempts for this role.'
  • Being turned down in the team's profile and CV review after qualifying, or missing a recruiter appointment without telling anyone.
  • SME pausing or closing the role after your application, which then shows 'This job is no longer available' with nothing more you can do.
  • Qualifying for a role with no work attached. That is not a rejection, but it only places you in the pool; on 29 October 2026 the no-immediate-project notice sat on 129 of 264 open roles.
How long it takes
No overall timeline is published. Grades usually take 1 to 2 business days, while screening has no set length and depends on the role, on current demand and on how fast each side finishes its part. Identity checks in Deel are mostly instant; a manual review stretches that to as long as 3 business days. Invitations after onboarding depend on what clients need, and SME gives no date for those either.
When you get paid
SME pays once a week through Deel, combining approved earnings into a single payout: Monday to Sunday work is paid the following Friday, and the money usually lands 1 to 3 days after SME sends it to Deel, depending on your withdrawal method. Hourly projects pay tracked active time only, and the hourly rate is set by SME's team, not by you.

Tips to get accepted

  • A rate shown as 'Up to $X/hr' is the top of the range, not your pay. Just 241 of 2,220 postings named any floor when we counted on 29 October 2026. What you are actually offered is SME's decision, weighing your background, skills, where you live and the going market rate.
  • Before investing time in a role, look in its description for 'There is no immediate project for this role', a line found on just under half the open roles (129 of 264) when we counted on 29 October 2026.
  • Competition is real: each card on the jobs page counts this month's applicants, and on 29 October 2026 the Biomedical Engineer card showed 1,555 and the English Language Expert card 10,434.
  • Each invitation card carries the project's hourly rate and a deadline, so read it first. Backing out carries no penalty. Once a card expires it can no longer be taken up, but support can issue a new one on request.
  • Pick your Deel withdrawal route with the fees in mind: Wise, Revolut or a local bank transfer is free, PayPal costs 2.5%, Payoneer 1% (at least $12), and a cross-border withdrawal adds $5.
  • On hourly work, stop the Insightful timer during breaks: more than 2 minutes without keyboard or mouse activity is unpaid, as is time spent in AI tools your project does not permit.
  • Check each Friday payment the day it lands. Disputes go to payments@sme.careers, sent from the email you registered with, inside 14 days; SME warns that a later claim might not be reviewed.
  • SME emails you whenever you need to act or your status changes, the onboarding invitation included, so keep Application updates notifications switched on (Email Preferences, a tab of your profile).

What isn't public

  • SME keeps three numbers to itself: how many people pass the AI interview, how answers are scored, and how many of those who qualify or onboard are ever placed on a project.
  • The listed pay is a ceiling: most postings show an 'up to' figure only and SME's team sets the actual rate. Reddit users describe roles posted at $55 and $30 an hour that came with $9 and $8 offers; SME has not responded to those reports and we could not confirm them.
  • SME contradicts itself on speed. Its FAQ promises that most experts land a first paid project within days of approval and its home page promises 'Start Earning in weeks', but its help pages say there is no fixed timeline and that onboarding does not guarantee placement.
  • Close to half of all roles (129 of 264 on 29 October 2026) said no project was waiting, and people on Reddit describe waits of two months, once a year and a half, after their Deel signature.
  • No public contractor terms were found: the footer links only a privacy and a cookie policy, the contractor agreement appears in Deel only after you request it, and the help pages say nothing about taxes, notice periods or minimum hours.
  • Deel must support your country, but SME never says which countries those are. Its home page talks of experts in 40+ countries; its job feed that same day (29 October 2026) spanned 102.
  • Reddit posters noticed their Deel contracts called the job just 'Data Trainer' without any hourly figure. That matches SME's help pages, under which every onboarded person is a Data Trainer and the rate is shown on the profile and in each project invitation.
  • There is little outside feedback to go on. Trustpilot held only 2 reviews of sme.careers when we read it on 29 October 2026, our reader could not open Glassdoor or Reddit, and Reddit posters cannot be verified. The job counts here come from one read of the open-jobs API behind sme.careers/jobs that day.

Frequently asked questions

Is SuperAnnotate (SME) legitimate?

Yes. Deel payouts to contractors are on record, and SME Careers is SuperAnnotate's own channel for hiring expert AI trainers, operated by SME Solutions, Inc. of San Francisco. Could SuperAnnotate (SME) be a scam?

No. SuperAnnotate (SME) is a real company.

Does SuperAnnotate (SME) really pay health professionals?

Yes. A real, funded company (a Series B with NVIDIA's venture arm among its backers) whose contractors report being paid through Deel. Approval is not the same as work: 137 of its 138 health postings on 2 November 2026 said no project was open for the role yet, and many approved contractors report waiting months for one. Payouts: Weekly through Deel, as an independent contractor: work done Monday to Sunday is paid the following Friday once SME's team approves it, usually arriving 1 to 3 days after SME submits the payout. On hourly projects only tracked active time is paid, and SME's team sets your rate.

What does SuperAnnotate (SME) pay per hour?

Up to $35–$150/hr (posted ceilings, by role and country). Ceilings as posted on SME Careers' public jobs list on November 2, 2026: 138 postings for 10 health roles, each stating a maximum hourly rate and no minimum. US ceilings: Medical Doctor (Specialist) $150, Radiologist $120, Healthcare Specialist (rubric design) $100, Nurse Practitioner and Dentist $90, Psychology Quality Assurance Lead $80, Public Health Expert and Clinical Researcher $70, Nurse and Pharmacist $65 (Germany posts the same). Brazil's are lower (Pharmacist $45, Nurse $50, Radiologist $70) and those of the 14 South and Southeast Asian countries lowest (Pharmacist $35, Nurse and Nurse Practitioner $40, Radiologist $50); Medical Doctor (Specialist) is $150 in all 17. 137 of the 138 say there is no immediate project for the role. SME's team sets your actual rate, and what contributors report being paid sits below the posted ceilings (worker and review-site reports, read October 31, 2026).

Is SuperAnnotate (SME) worth your time next to a job in care?

SuperAnnotate (SME) pays Up to $35–$150/hr (posted ceilings, by role and country) (employer-stated). It is remote contract work on AI beside a clinical job, not patient care, with no guaranteed hours. Worker sentiment: Trustpilot (SuperAnnotate) 2.9/5 (33 reviews) · Trustpilot (SME Careers) 2.9/5 (2 reviews) · Indeed (SuperAnnotate) 5.0/5 (1 review).

How and when does SuperAnnotate (SME) pay you?

Weekly through Deel, as an independent contractor: work done Monday to Sunday is paid the following Friday once SME's team approves it, usually arriving 1 to 3 days after SME submits the payout. On hourly projects only tracked active time is paid, and SME's team sets your rate.

Is SuperAnnotate (SME) patient care?

No. SuperAnnotate (SME) is remote contract work on AI, not patient care: you use your professional knowledge to review and improve what AI models say. Never share identifiable patient information in the work.

How many minutes does SME's AI interview take?

Roughly 15 minutes are scheduled, with a short grace period so you can complete the last answer. You talk on video with an AI interviewer whenever it suits you, and the recording is kept; most interviews are in English.

Is a second attempt at the interview allowed?

A single retake exists, and only for results marked Retake available. If the interview broke off for a technical reason, or you answered fewer than three questions, it shows as Incomplete and does not use up an attempt. Beyond that, SME's team grants an extra try only rarely and at its discretion.

What rates do clinicians see on SME Careers?

It varies by role and country. On 29 October 2026 the highest ceiling among the hourly postings (2,219 of the 2,220 open) was $150 an hour, for the Medical Doctor (Specialist) role, and the lowest $2.50 (Computer Vision QA Specialist, Bangladesh and India). Across all postings the middle ceiling was $40; the 223 American postings spanned $20 to $150, with $55 in the middle. All of these are maximums, not offers.

On what schedule does SME pay, and through what?

Weekly, via Deel, for work the team has approved: a Monday to Sunday week is released on the Friday after it, and you typically see the money 1 to 3 days later. You first need a Deel contract that is active and an identity Deel has verified. Money for a paid exam is handled roughly 10 days after your Deel contract is finished.

Who owns SME Careers?

SuperAnnotate does: SME Careers' job posts call it a subsidiary, and its privacy policy names two controllers, SuperAnnotate Inc. and SME Solutions, Inc., sharing one address in San Francisco. Tasks are carried out on a work platform, SuperAnnotate's own being one example.

Can I apply again after a rejection?

Each job takes one application, so the same role cannot be reapplied to. Failing one role costs you nothing on the others. And someone who qualified without being matched stays in SME's network, it says, to be considered as new roles open.

Does finishing onboarding mean paid work right away?

SME's own words are that onboarding makes you eligible to be matched and is no guarantee of being placed straight away. Experiences on Reddit split: some got paid project work, while others sat for two months, one for eighteen months, with nothing.

Is my screen monitored on SME projects?

Yes on hourly projects, whenever the timer runs: the Insightful desktop app may log the applications and websites you use and capture screenshots and screen recordings. Stop the timer and, by SME's account, recording stops too.

Does SME train AI on interview recordings?

Per SME, no: it neither trains models on your recording, face or voice nor gives them to clients. It holds a recording for 24 months at most, and support@sme.careers will delete it within 30 days of a request. Not every applicant believes this, judging by posts on Reddit and Trustpilot.
