AI training programs · Voice data for AI (conversation, voice acting, transcription)
Babel Audio
Babel Audio is the contributor platform of David AI Labs, an audio-data company founded by former Scale AI staff that raised a $50 million Series B in October 2025. Contributors hold recorded conversations with another person, read voice-acting scripts in their native language or transcribe audio for AI training, paid per recorded or transcribed hour every week. None of its 47 jobs on 2 November 2026 named a health profession, and this board does not list its jobs: for a health professional it is flexible side work in a language you speak, not clinical work, and you apply on its own dashboard.
Employer-stated
Is Babel Audio a legitimate company to work for?
Checked Oct 2026 against 15 sourcesYes. Behind it is David AI Labs, Inc., which sells voice data to AI labs and raised a $50 million Series B round in October 2025; Babel pays its contributors each week through Dots, a payouts firm. No clinical license is involved. The work can dry up without a stated reason. Reviewers tell of noise flags raised by software, smaller daily quotas, being taken off projects and a one-shot ID check. Time spent waiting for someone to talk to is not paid. It pays $17.50–$150/hr (employer-stated).

What people praise
- Plenty of five-star reviews report weekly pay that lands on schedule, and like the free choice of hours, the clear tutorials and admins who get back within a day or two.
- No job post hides its pay, and the voice-acting ones explain that the rate where you live is shown on the dashboard together with the offer, so you know it before recording.
- Sign-up can be fast: in October 2026 one reviewer was accepted on the day they applied and saw the first pay the Tuesday after.
What people complain about
- One-star reviews describe being dropped from projects or having daily call caps lowered after background-noise flags, without a clear explanation, and support that is slow to answer.
- Some people were accepted and then failed the selfie ID step, and were told there was no appeal; for others a VoIP phone number stopped them from setting up payouts.
- Because conversation work pays only for the minutes actually recorded, some reviewers earn much less than advertised: one estimated about $6 an hour against a $17.50 rate.
- Sign-up turns away phone numbers from certain countries; reviewers in Nigeria and Argentina say they never managed to open an account.
Best for: Health workers fluent or native in another language who want flexible voice gigs paid weekly (conversations, voice acting from a computer, transcription) and have a quiet room plus a headset or external mic. Not for: People needing steady hours or clinical work, anyone with only a VoIP number, anyone stuck with a built-in laptop mic in a loud home, or unsure of a selfie ID check; projects, quotas and access shift unannounced.
Honest catches
- Pay here is employer-stated, not measured live from a job feed, so treat it as a benchmark rather than a guaranteed rate.

Signing up with Babel Audio
Researched Oct 2026Weekly Tuesday pay for recorded or transcribed audio comes after a short path: register at dashboard.babel.audio with an email address and a genuine mobile number (VoIP is refused), spend roughly 10 minutes answering a few questions and recording a voice sample, wait while Babel's team reviews it, then clear the ID check, link PayPal, Venmo or a bank account through Dots and choose your projects.
Eligibility
- Age 18 or over, since Babel Audio's privacy policy bars anyone younger from registering or using it.
- Your own mobile line, able to get SMS codes. The sign-up page has you enter it twice and cautions that Google Voice, TextNow or any other VoIP service will block ID verification and onboarding, and with them your payouts.
- Conversation jobs in French, German, Italian, Portuguese or Turkish: any computer or smartphone on a steady connection, a quiet room, earphones if possible, no VPN or proxy during calls, and time in the two daily call slots (noon to 1 PM and 8 to 9 PM, US Eastern).
- The English video conversation job: a laptop or desktop rather than a phone or tablet, a solid connection, preferably a USB or other external mic, plus a camera filming at 720p or higher and 30 frames per second, well lit, in front of a plain wall.
- Voice acting: native fluency in the language, a working past in dubbing, narration, audiobooks or acting with your voice, an external USB or XLR mic (built-in, wireless and Bluetooth ones are not allowed) and an echo-free, quiet room.
- Transcription: native fluency, sharp hearing for accents and overlapping voices, and care in labelling noises and non-speech sounds the way a written guideline says; headphones and quiet are advised.
- A country the job takes. As read on 29 October 2026, the English video job wanted residents of the United States or Canada and no one else; conversation jobs paid $17.50 per recorded hour in those two countries and possibly less in others; voice acting and transcription had no country limit, with rates set per country.
- An ID check you pass after being accepted. According to reviewers it includes a selfie with only a few attempts allowed, which Babel explained to one of them as a security measure.
The sign-up steps
- 1
Start from the open jobs
The public list at babel.audio/jobs held 46 jobs on 29 October 2026. Find yours by language and check four things on it: the rate, the unit it is paid in (recorded hour, or audio hour transcribed), the equipment, and on conversation jobs the countries accepted. If none suits you, use the General Application and let Babel place you.
- 2
Open an account
Sign-up lives at dashboard.babel.audio/sign-up: an email address, then your mobile number typed in two fields, then a box agreeing that Babel may send automated texts about your account and paid work. You will later sign in with that number, which is why a VoIP number will not do.
- 3
Record your sample
Roughly 10 minutes, Babel says: you answer some quick questions and record a short clip of your voice, from which it assesses how you converse and how well you speak the language.
- 4
Wait for a person to review it
Review is done by Babel's team, and no turnaround is promised. Watch both your inbox and your texts, and do not let the phone number lapse.
- 5
Verify your identity
Acceptance is followed by an ID check that must be passed before any paid work. Reviewers say the selfie step allows few tries and that a fail cannot be undone, so pick good lighting and a valid ID.
- 6
Connect a payout account
Babel hands payouts to Dots, a licensed payment platform; you choose a bank transfer, PayPal or Venmo, and Babel says nothing is deducted and no threshold applies.
- 7
Pick projects
You see the rate of every project before you start one. Expect a small daily allowance of work on each new project, raised step by step while your recordings pass the quality bar.
- 8
Get paid on Tuesdays
Tuesday is payday, covering the work you finished in the week before it. Keep to the guidelines: a run of weak submissions can see your access to projects reduced or paused.
A voice sample to get in, quality review for as long as you work
The gate is the short recording in your application, which staff listen to for how naturally you talk, how well you know the language and how clean the sound is. After that, your recordings are checked against each project's guidelines, and the results decide how much daily work you get and whether you keep access.
Format
A short audio clip recorded during an application of about 10 minutes and assessed by staff afterwards. Babel shares no rubric, pass rate or turnaround.
How to prepare
- Match your equipment to the job: conversations want headphones or a headset, and voice acting a computer with an external USB or XLR mic (no built-in, wireless or Bluetooth ones).
- Record where it is quietest and least echoey, away from fans and typing, with your mouth the same distance from the mic throughout.
- Prefer a cable or a very stable connection; one reviewer passed a speed test and still failed Babel's own network check, and calls need to run smoothly.
- Before you apply, read the job's guidelines and its pay unit so that your language and country fit it.
- In the sample, sound like yourself and speak clearly; that clip is what Babel judges you on.
Why people get rejected
- Signing up on VoIP, after which neither ID verification nor onboarding nor pay can go through.
- Recording with a laptop's own mic or a Bluetooth one, or in a room with echo or noise, which according to reviewers leads to noise flags and shrinking limits.
- Living outside the US and Canada and still applying for English video, or naming the wrong variety of German, French or another language when a conversation job asks which one you speak.
- Not getting through the selfie ID step, a result reviewers describe as final.
- No answer at all: some applicants report an application stuck 'under review'.
Tips to get accepted
- Sign up with a real mobile number, never a VoIP one: the form says Google Voice, TextNow and the like block ID verification, onboarding and payouts.
- Check what the rate is per. A paid hour is an hour of finished audio: transcription earns up to $110 for each hour of audio done and voice acting $60 to $150 per finished hour, which may take you several hours of work.
- The voice-acting figure on a post applies to US residents. Living elsewhere, you see a location-based rate in your dashboard at the moment the work is offered to you.
- Conversation jobs pay for recorded time only and need another speaker online at the same moment, so log on during the noon to 1 PM or 8 to 9 PM (US Eastern) call slots to be paired quickly.
- Your quality record sets your workload: limits begin low, rise as you deliver, and can be cut or paused after repeated misses.
- Contest a flag or ask for help by email to support@babel.audio, keeping copies; reviewers find replies slow at times.
What isn't public
- How long review takes, how many are accepted and whether you may reapply are all unpublished, and some applicants describe applications left 'under review' with no outcome.
- Neither the accepted ID documents nor the verification provider is named; Babel's only word on it, in a Trustpilot reply, is that standard industry providers do the check and attempts are capped for security.
- No country list exists. Babel says its contributors live in 60+ countries, but its English video job takes only the United States or Canada, conversation pay is lower elsewhere, and sign-up turns down some countries' mobile numbers ("Phone numbers from this country are not currently supported"): it refused an Argentine number on 24 Oct 2026, and reviewers in Argentina and Nigeria describe the same.
- Its terms make you responsible for your own taxes but do not say whether Dots asks for a W-9, W-8BEN or other tax form.
- Non-US voice-acting rates are not listed country by country; the posts give one range for everyone (from $60 up to $150 an hour of recording) and say yours is confirmed before you start.
- The homepage still advertised Indeed 4/5 and Glassdoor 4.7/5 'as of 5/14/26' on 29 October 2026; we had read 3.8/5 from 75 reviews on Indeed on 10 October 2026, and on 29 October neither site would let our reader in to check again.
- No client is named by Babel Audio or David AI; the latter claims 'several of the Mag7' and most leading AI labs as customers.
- Where the terms explain how to opt out of arbitration, the address is still a placeholder ('[STREET ADDRESS], [CITY]'), so nobody can tell where to send the notice.
- Most outside feedback here comes from Trustpilot: we could not read Reddit, and searching found no Reddit threads either.
- Any job count or rate here is a snapshot, taken from the 46 jobs Babel listed publicly on 29 October 2026.

Frequently asked questions
Is Babel Audio legitimate?
Yes.
Could Babel Audio be a scam?
No. Babel Audio is a real company. No impostor recruiting in Babel Audio's name has come to our attention. You find it at babel.audio, with every open job on dashboard.babel.audio, and help at support@babel.audio. If an SMS about paid work arrives, it may be real (Babel does text users who opted in), so look the offer up on the dashboard. Pay runs only via Dots; an upfront fee means scam.
Does Babel Audio really pay health professionals?
Yes. A real, well-funded audio-data company (David AI Labs, $50M Series B in October 2025) that says 40,000 contributors use it. Reviewers report automated quality flags, daily limits that shrink and removal from projects, and a failed ID check cannot be retried. Payouts: Every Tuesday for the week before, through Dots, to PayPal, Venmo or a bank account, with no minimum and no fees. Each job names its rate, counted per recorded hour or, for transcription, per audio hour transcribed. A week's earnings go out the next Tuesday; Dots, a licensed payment platform, delivers them to a bank account, Venmo or PayPal, and Babel deducts no fee and requires no minimum.
What does Babel Audio pay per hour?
$17.50–$150/hr. From Babel Audio's own public job list (the same rates on October 10, 27 and 30, 2026; 47 jobs on November 2, 2026): conversation partners $17.50 per recorded hour (English video conversations $50/hr), voice actors $60 to $150 an hour by language, and transcribers up to $110 per audio hour transcribed. Pay is per recorded or transcribed hour, plus challenge bonuses.
Is Babel Audio worth your time next to a job in care?
Babel Audio pays $17.50–$150/hr (employer-stated). It is remote contract work on AI beside a clinical job, not patient care, with no guaranteed hours. Worker sentiment: Trustpilot 3.8/5 (134 reviews) · Indeed 3.8/5 (75 reviews).
How and when does Babel Audio pay you?
Every Tuesday for the week before, through Dots, to PayPal, Venmo or a bank account, with no minimum and no fees.
Is Babel Audio patient care?
No. Babel Audio is remote contract work on AI, not patient care: you use your professional knowledge to review and improve what AI models say. Never share identifiable patient information in the work.
What are Babel Audio's rates?
It depends on the job. Among the 46 public jobs on 29 October 2026, conversation partners in French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Turkish earned $17.50 per recorded hour in the US and Canada (less elsewhere), English video partners $50 per recorded hour, voice actors $60 to $150 per recorded hour by country, and transcribers up to $110 per audio hour transcribed.
When do I get paid?
Every Tuesday, for the week before, through Dots to PayPal, Venmo or your bank; Babel says it charges nothing and has no payout minimum.
Who runs Babel Audio?
David AI Labs, Inc. (Dover, Delaware), the company behind the audio-data firm David AI, is who you contract with under the terms of use. Its website gives a San Francisco base; for help, write to support@babel.audio.
Can I sign up with Google Voice?
No: the form warns that Google Voice, TextNow and other VoIP numbers stop ID verification, so you could neither onboard nor be paid.
Do I need special equipment?
For conversations a phone or computer, headphones, a quiet room and a steady connection without VPN; for voice acting a computer with an external USB or XLR mic; for the English video job a laptop or desktop and a 720p camera recording at 30 frames per second.
Why was my daily limit lowered?
Quality decides: repeated misses against the guidelines can get your access reduced or paused, and Babel sends feedback when it is able to. Each project starts you on a low limit that rises while your quality holds.
Do I have to commit to hours?
No shifts and no minimum, per Babel, and equally no promised hours: the work available depends on which projects are running and on your language.
