Job Description

The Surgical Technologist will assist the surgical team by performing a variety of tasks in the operating room. Responsibilities include preparing for surgical procedures, ensuring a sterile setup, and passing necessary instruments to the surgical team during operations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile solutions.
• Assemble both sterile and non-sterile equipment and check their proper functioning.
• Prepare patients for surgery, including washing, shaving, and ensuring aseptic incision sites.
• Assist with positioning patients on the operating table and covering them with sterile drapes.
• Pass instruments and other sterile supplies efficiently to surgeons and assistants during surgery.
• Hold retractors, cut sutures, and sponge or suction the operative site under supervision.
• Help in counting sponges, needles, and instruments during procedures.
• Assist in preparing, caring for, and disposing of specimens taken for laboratory analysis.
• Ensure that all medications are labeled and dispensed according to established policies.
• After surgery, assist in transferring patients to the recovery room and cleaning the operating room.
• Restock operating room supplies and maintain an aseptic environment.

Required Experience

2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist is required.

Certifications/Licensure

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery - Certified (TSC)
• Compliance with PA Act 31, 33, 34, and 73.
