Overview

Iowa Lutheran Hospita l is seeking a Nursing Supervisor for Surgical Service s to help lead our Operating Room team and ensure outstanding patient care, staff development, and operational excellence.

In this key leadership role, you'll partner with the Surgical Services team to oversee the daily operations of the Operating Room while fostering a culture of collaboration, quality, and patient-centered care. You'll provide guidance and support to a dedicated team of perioperative professionals, helping them grow while ensuring efficient, cost-effective, and safe surgical services.

• Lead and coordinate day-to-day Operating Room operations
• Support, mentor, and develop nursing and surgical services staff
• Promote high-quality, cost-effective patient care and operational excellence
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize surgical outcomes
• Assist in providing direct perioperative nursing care when needed
• Champion patient safety, quality improvement, and service excellence

Responsibilities

• Integrates the UnityPoint Health Des Moines Nursing Expectations of Performance in all aspects of care deliver y and professional practice.
• Manages daily operations of patient care. Contributes to the maintenance of high-quality, cost-effective services consistent with the needs of the users and the hospi tal’s budgetary guidelines .
• Provides clinical leadership by directing, coordinating, and delegating patient care in an organized manne r, allowing for flexibility.
• Acts as an interdepartmental liaison promoting effective m ultidisciplinary teamwork and positive interpersonal relations.
• Collaborates with physicians and other health care team members to achiev e optimal patient outcomes .
• Remains competent and available to p articipate in patient care pertinent to clinical specialty .
• Demonstrates personal and professional growth and p romotes the same among team members .
• Exhibits discretion and sound judgment in all aspects of the job.
• Maintains awareness of applicable laws and/or regulations affecting patient care . Remains current on law/regulation changes, recognizes implications to the organization and recommends courses of a ction to ensure compliance.
• Assists in the development of policy/procedure and guidelines for safe, efficient op eration of the department as needed.
• Assists in developing annual budget and takes appropriate action when appropriate to maintain cont rol of department financial resources .
• Implements evidence-based practice strategies to meet the patient care needs. Assists in the achievement of quality improvement objectives and takes necessary modificatio ns for attainment of goals.
• Participates in interviews, coaching and evaluation of team member performance with appropriate input . Demonstrates the ability to interpret, apply and follow HR policies/procedures fairly and consistently .
• Represents UPHDM in a professional manner . Promotes positive interpersonal relations and serves as a role model within the department a nd with hospital personnel.
• Creates an environment that promotes staff empowerment.
• Displays creativity and innovation when making recommendations for improvement in the delivery of services to the hospital.
• Can instruct and lead the staff so that a high level of productivity is maintained , intervening when necessary to problem solve.
• Demonstrates the ability to be fair and impartial while maintaining a professional relationsh ip.
• Consistently utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area) .
• Participates in interdepartmental projects for personal and profes sional development.
• Provides honest, timely and consistent communication while collaborating with staff, physicians & peers.
• Publishes a timely , fair, consistent, and impartial staffing schedule that meets the department need .
• Supervises, supports, evaluates, and guides staff providing appropriate input for job performance.
• Set agendas and run meetings.
• Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concer ns immediately .

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's Degree

Experience

• One year experience as a registered nurse
• Preferred: 3 years OR nursing and/or charge or leadership experience.

License(s)/Certifications

• Current Iowa License as a registered nurse
• Current BCLS certification or obtain within 3 months from hire
• Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
