CNAs and PCAs p r ovide n onmedical se r vice and assis t ance to a client in their h o me and co m munity, who, becaus e of advan c ed age o r physical or m ental disa b ility, cannot p erform these serv i ces. These services ena b le the clien t to remain in hi s /her reside n ce. Therefore, the caregi v er must fee l comfortab l e caring for a clien t in a priv a te home or s e tting. The Ca r egivers mai n objective i s client satis f action and safety for bot h oneself an d for the client. Th e Caregi v er must h a ve sensitivit y for the nee d s of others , a professional manner, and a positive attitude . Aides ar e responsible fo r ensuring t h at service is del i vered in a caring and res p ectful manner, in accordance wit h th e Agen c y polices, in d ustry standar d s, and state regulations. Aide s need t o report o n time to sched u led shi f t unless specific circumstan c es come up.

ESSENTIAL F U NCTI O NS

The CN A /PCA p r ovides se r vice to a client ba s ed on a n d limited to a client’s care plan. The care plan is based on an assessme n t of the client’s need s fo r services, deve l oped i n conjunctio n with a fun c tional assessment a n d with the i n put from the client an d /or client’s family. C N A/PCA service s are tasks that a r e necessitated by a client’s d i sability or chronic conditio n that limits the client’s ability to perfo r m funct i onal activities or daily living (A D L’s) and instr u mental activ i ties of dai l y living (IADL’ s ). CNA/PCA serv i ces vary dependin g on the needs a n d requirements of each in d ividual client. Client ne e ds and requirements are documente d through th e client’s funct i onal asse s sment. These serv i ces involve direct care fr o m cueing/promptin g to total assistance.

CNAs and PCAs will

• Ensure client’s sa f ety and s ecurity by supe r vising the h ome envi r onment
• Teach/perform M e al Planni n g and Preparat i on and s e rving the client
• Routine Hous e keeping a ctivities suc h as maki n g/cha n ging bed d ing, dustin g , vacuumin g , washing floors, cleani n g kitchen a n d bathroom, an d laundry. H ousehold tasks shoul d not exc e ed 20% of t i me worked pe r shift unless th e client has a Hou s ekeepin g Aut h orization.
• Provide Compa n ionship in c ludin g social interactions, c onversations, e motional reass u rance, and encourageme n t of activiti e s that simula t e the mind.
• Provide respit e care for f a milies in ac c ordance with care pla n s
• Preform/assist with essent i al shopping/errands , which m a y include handli n g the c lient’s money in accordance w i th the car e plan, agency p olicy, and un d er the observ a tion of the S upervisor or Administra t or*
• Assist clients w i th followin g written, specia l diet plan, a n d reinforc e ment of diet maintena n ce, which is provided un d er the dire c tion of a Physicia n and as i d entified on the ca r e plan
• Assist clients w i th standing , walking, sittin g , and rollin g in bed
• Escort clients t o medical f a cilities, errands, s h opping, and outings as specified i n the ca r e plan*
• Assist clients w i th c o mmunication b y writing o r typing corr e sponden c e for th e m or researchi n g information for them
• Participate on the Care Te a m by providi n g input an d making su g gestions
• Notifies agenc y when u n able to wor k scheduled a ssig n ment s – 24 hour notificat i on required
• Ensure servi c e is delivere d in accordan c e with all relev a nt policies, p r ocedures, a nd practices
• Monitor supplie s and reso u rces
• Follow the wri t ten care pl a n and works all h ours as e s tablished by Supe r visor

QUALIFIC A TIONS/ REQ U IREMENTS

• Must be, at least , eighteen (18) years of ag e or older.
• Must be able to provide s ervices ac c ording to th e care plan o f the client.
• Excellent cus t omer se r vice a n d listening skills.
• Excellent oral and written communicat i on skills; a b le to effective l y communic a te with the client and the office staff.
• Ability t o rea d and write c l ear English.
• Able to compu t e basic ma t hematics.
• Able to pass ba c kground c h ecks
• Able to pass dru g screening
• Current dri v ers’ license
• Valid I-9 Employment Eligibility Verif i cation doc u men t s
• Valid vehicle ins u rance c o verage and regi s tration
• Must have, or obtain u p on hire, curren t CPR and First Aid Certification
