The CNA assists residents with activities of daily living, promotes comfort, safety, dignity, and independence, and supports the delivery of high-quality resident-centered care in accordance with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards, federal and state regulations, local requirements, and organizational policies and procedures. The CNA observes and reports changes in resident condition, documents care provided, and communicates effectively with nursing staff, physicians, ancillary departments, residents, families, and external agencies while maintaining strict confidentiality. This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, self-motivation, sound judgment, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment. The CNA is expected to demonstrate compassion, professionalism, creativity, and accountability while contributing to exceptional resident outcomes.

  • Safety, Infection Control, and Regulatory Compliance: Follows infection control, OSHA, HIPAA, resident safety, and applicable regulatory standards. Maintains vigilance over residents by ensuring call lights are within reach, beds are in the lowest appropriate position, side rails are used as indicated, and rooms remain neat, orderly, and free of hazards.
  • Resident Support and Communication: Provides encouragement and respectful support to residents and family members, responds promptly to call lights, escorts residents to departments or services as needed, and assists with admissions, transfers, discharges, and transportation to vehicles or other locations.
  • Specialized Care Needs: Supports residents with specialized needs, including those with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, by applying appropriate memory-care strategies, behavioral support techniques, and resident-centered approaches.
  • Teamwork and Special Assignments: Accepts and completes special assignments in a timely manner, assists other staff with duties as needed, transports residents, supplies, and specimens, and provides relief in other areas when assigned.
  • Training, Certification, and Professional Development: Maintains required certification in accordance with hospital, state, federal, and TJC requirements, including completion of 12 hours of resident-related in-service education annually, and participates in ongoing training related to resident care, medical terminology, physiology, CPR, BLS, emergency response, and other applicable competency requirements.
